Fall Fishing Report - Vancouver/Ucluelet
Pursuit Sport Fishing
We have enjoyed a pretty successful fall salmon fishery to date here in Vancouver, and decent runs of chinook, coho and chum salmon are showing up daily. We have been hooking and landing some impressive chinook and some feisty, big coho as well the last three weeks. The fishing will stay strong until late October for migrating salmon, and we will then transition to our winter fishery for December to June.
Our usual local hotspots for the fall have been consistently producing fish, with good catches at the Capilano river mouth, West Van shoreline, as well as the approaches to the Fraser River mouth. Our longer 8 and 10 hour charters have been the best option, as they allow us to fish the high and low tides. Waves of fish seem to show up daily, and stage in these areas on the slack tides.
We have been fishing a variety of lures such as spoons, hoochies and bucktails with success. Herring and anchovy has also been very productive. These fall fish are very sporting, as we have had a few monsters get away on us over the weeks. These are typically big fish with sharp teeth and they can wreak havoc on even 30lb leaders.
As we wrap up the fall fishery in late October, we will take some time in November for some TLC of the boat and equipment after a long and successful season. We will be back at it for December, chasing the winter chinooks and dropping our crab and prawn traps again. This is a wonderful fishery and we look forward to it each year.
We will again be offering some great deals on our winter charters so stay tuned or call us for the details.
Ucluelet report:
Our Ucluelet charters have come to an end after a great season on the west coast. Chinook fishing was consistent on the outer banks, and the usual late run of big chinook along the beaches kept us busy in August. Halibut fishing was good this year, but not a lot of big fish to speak of. We were still very successful in trolling up lots of good sized halibut for our guests. Next year is going to be another great year according to predictions. Call us early to book your summer dates, as we book up fast each summer. Space is already limited in July and August.
Fraser River:
Fraser River sturgeon fishing is fantastic right now, and this fishery has to be tried if you have not done so already. We have been hooking several sturgeon per trip and the average is 6'+. There are lots of 8-12' out there, so you never know when you hook into that monster.
The river is now open for salmon fishing after a long and exhausting closure. There are strong chinook runs in the river right now that are keeping us busy as we bar fish and cast for these fish. October and November are prime months for salmon fishing on the river as coho and chum salmon start showing up in big numbers. We cast jigs, spoons and flies all month for these coho and chum and the action can be non-stop.
We have dozens of boats available to us all year, so call to book your charter asap. We still have some prime dates available this fall so call now to book your fall charter - 1-604-997-0322.
