Okanagan Lake
Tourism Vernon
Experience the rush of wind in your hair and feel your adrenaline pump as you glide across Okanagan Lake on a speed boat in Vernon. Boating and water sports are a part of life in Vernon, from spring to fall with three lakes that surround the city and another 100 lakes within one hour’s drive away. Pop into town and grab a picnic lunch for the boat, there’s plenty of cafes and shops to choose from.
You can rent everything you need here from boats to boards to life jackets. Experience the colourful waters of Kalamalka Lake by boat or paddle board, or even bouncing across the surface on an inner tube. Kalamalka is a marl lake that showcases colours from deep indigo to teal in the summers. For the more adventurous, try wake surfing as you whisk across the lake. For something slower paced, hop into a canoe or kayak and explore our many coves and inlets. Get in touch with nature and your balance as you navigate the water on a stand-up paddle board.
Delve into the secret underwater world of Okanagan Lake at the only marine dive park in the Okanagan for snorkelling and scuba diving. Bring your own boat or rent on locally. You might even catch a glimpse of the Ogopogo.
Swan Lake is a shallower and quieter lake for those who live to fish and admire some of the best bird watching in BC from the surrounding wetlands. It’s a breeding, nesting and migration haven for ducks, waterfowl, marsh birds and more.
Our lakes are heaven for those who love to spend a day on the lake fishing. Check out the large shoal areas at the southern end of Kalamalka Lake. Cast deep and draw in rainbow trout or a kokanee. On Okanagan Lake, get ready to battle for kokanee, lake whitefish, burbot and rainbow trout that can reach over 9 kg!
Take time away from the boat to enjoy the sandy beaches and enjoy a swim. Of course, in town you can explore our local shops and restaurants. Check out the fresh local fruits, produce and artisan offerings at the Vernon Farmers’ Market. Enjoy family fun at Davison Orchards. Delight your taste buds with Vernon’s tasting trail for foodies or the wineries of the Scenic Sip in Lake Country.
Whatever, you decide to do – we have plenty of lakes to explore.
