Known for being home to some of the largest rainbow trout in the region, Okanagan Lake is once again the staging area the annual Kelowna Fishing Derby, scheduled over Father’s Day weekend, June 16, 2018.
Hosted by The Sport Fishing Guide and Rodney's Reel Outdoors, the derby is held at Rose’s Pub downtown Kelowna, (beside the Water St. Boat Launch) and offers a grand payout of $4,000 for the longest rainbow landed by registered anglers. Second and third place winners receive $1,000 and $500.
Open to all ages, the catch-and-release tournament is held from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. when all fish need to be measured and recorded. To ensure accuracy, a custom, event ruler is used to determine length and anglers are required to show their derby wristbands (given out at registration) when entering their catch. Once recorded, the fish is then released.
Other stipulations of the event Include:
- The prizes are based on the length of the trout only.
- Anglers can fish the entire lake.
- Catch and release practices are required.
Registration is held at Rose’s Pub, June 15 from 3-6 pm. (If you register online, you can pick up your registration package at Rose's Pub).
The entry fee is $65. In the event of cancellation, or if the event needs to be re-scheduled, each participant will be notified and the full entry fee will be reimbursed.
