Volvo Penta introduces new Connectivity App
Volvo Penta of the Americas
Volvo Penta’s Easy Connect mobile app is making its North American debut at the 2018 Miami International Boat Show. The new Easy Connect interface and app allows boat owners to view boat, engine and route data right on their mobile devices, both onboard and at home.
When used onboard, Easy Connect gives a convenient concise dashboard display to view real-time boat and engine data, complementing the displays at the helm station. When away from the boat, it provides an easy way to recapture stored routes and data from previous trips. With the app’s map function, you can share your boating experience with friends via social media. In the event of a problem, Easy Connect makes it easy to provide engine data and troubleshooting codes to the dealer. You can even store your dealer’s contact information for instant access within the app in case you need it.
“Connectivity is becoming more and more important in today’s boating industry,” said Ron Huibers, president of Volvo Penta of the Americas. “From our discussions with boat owners and dealers we know today’s consumers want the convenience and functions that smart technology offers in a seamless way. They’re accustomed to being connected with their homes, their cars, their offices and their friends and family any time and place, and they expect the same when it comes to their boating experience.”
“Easy Connect is the next logical step in our philosophy of Easy Boating, built around fully integrated smart systems from helm to prop and beyond,” Huibers added. “We’re totally committed to bringing to market innovative solutions that will make it easier for people to enjoy the unique boating lifestyle.”
Easy Connect works seamlessly with all new and installed Volvo Penta EVC gasoline and diesel engines from 2003 onwards, and also with older non-EVC gasoline engines since 2006. The Easy Connect interface also includes NMEA 2000 functionality, enabling it to connect with other NMEA communications networks on the boat. In addition, it can be used to convert engine data into NMEA 2000-compatible chart plotters and multi-function displays.
“While Easy Connect is a great interface for new boats, it’s also been designed to provide an affordable way to give many of our existing customers with older engines the advantages that a digital platform can offer,” said Huibers. “It’s an easy upgrade for the many thousands of Aquamatic stern drives and diesel engines still in service.”
The free Easy Connect app is now available for iOS 10 or later devices, and an Android version will be launched in the coming months. The Bluetooth interface is available directly from an authorized Volvo Penta dealership.
