As there are many Federal and Provincial Government regulations in effect to preserve the BC waterways, the treatment of grey water is a task that constantly needs to be managed by recreational boaters. While resorting to pump out stations at marinas is a common practise, its not always convenient, especially in more rural regions where marinas and waste services are scarce. That’s where Erling Kjerside and his company Go Green Wastewater Ltd. comes into play.
In operation since the mid-1990s, Go Green Wastewater Ltd. specializes in septic and waste water treatment systems. While the company initially contracted residential, commercial and industrial projects, they soon expanded with a variety of waste water treatment solutions for marine-based structures including floating fishing lodges and logging camps, as well as float homes and additional recreational boating applications.
As an example, to effectively serve boaters, its series of compact and low-profile waste water treatment tanks are very much applicable for floating homes or around docks of a waterfront residence, allowing enthusiasts to conveniently empty a boat’s blackwater tank into the waste water treatment system at any time. Each system meets the requirements and standards of the Ministry of Health of BC and LC50 standard for Canadian Department of Fisheries and Oceans for recreational and commercial applications.
The individual polyethylene tanks that are available in sizes from 30 W x 66 L x 61 H cm (12 W x 26 L x 24 H in) and 122 W x 213 L x 81 H cm (48 W x 84 L x 32 H in) in capacities from 473 L (125 gal) to 1,514 L (400 gal) and incorporate an compartmentalized design where a multi-stage water treatment process holds the waste water and automatically treats it before the tank pumps it back into a lake or the ocean. The tanks can be installed above or below ground and even underneath decks or other structures. Multiple tanks are available when higher capacities of water need to be treated.
“Boaters are very environmentally conscious and use the waste water treatment systems at their boat houses where they manage and treat the waste water themselves,” says Kjerside. “This is especially ideal for more remote areas when pump out stations are not readily available.”
Some Benefits of the Eco Go Green Tanks include:
- An environmentally friendly treatment process – filters or added chemicals are not required.
- Cost and energy efficient as the treatment system partially uses gravity flow for operation.
- High quality Polyethylene-constructed tanks prevent external contamination and controls the odour, with sealed lids.
- Free service contract and warranty for one-year.
- Easy DIY installation process (below the surface or waterline)
- The capability to be installed above ground that gives flexibility. They can also be installed underground (as an option) if needed despite poor soil conditions.
With the ability to be used in fresh or saltwater, the water treatment systems can run on a 12 V 25 W 0.3-amp system, solar panel or battery backup system, range in price from $6,200 to $11,800 and come with a five-year warranty.
