Simrad has introduced the AP48, a premium control head for the company’s Continuum autopilot systems. It features an optically bonded 4.1-inch full-color display and a more modern glass screen.
“Autopilot control is a vital part of any on-board electronics suite,” Navico CEO Leif Ottosson said in a statement. “The precision, functionality and ease of use the new AP48 offers gives users powerful, practical features in a stylish package. No matter what conditions you are heading into, the AP48 offers boaters a vital extra crewmember to take the wheel and steer with confidence.”
The AP48 provides a wide 170-degree viewing angle and full access to advanced Continuum steering features, including Automated Turn Patterns, No Drift steering and Depth Contour Tracking. It also offers users the same intuitive interface as the more compact A44. It has a larger rotary dial to provide precise steering control, and dodge keys let a captain make heading changes in 1- or 10-degree increments. The AP48’s buttons are large enough to be used with wet or gloved hands.
Additionally, Simrad said the new controller gives users easy access to built-in turn patterns to assist with fishing, diving or even a U-turn. Boaters can also customize turn patterns. With a compatible echosounder module that enables depth contour tracking, the AP48 can be set to maintain a constant water depth beneath a vessel, and automatic compass calibration is available, as well.
