RV Camping provincial park
By Cassandra Redding
You know the feeling – you drive your RV into the well-rated campground and know it is going to be a beautiful place to stay. You’re excited to be there and you congratulate yourself for finding such a great destination! However, that feeling of excitement can quickly turn to stress when there are so many sites to choose from and you don’t know which one to pick. Setting up your RV can be hassle-free but it takes a bit of time and a bit of work, and once you park, you definitely don’t want to move again if the site isn’t right. To make sure you don’t suffer from FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) and ensure you find the site that is perfect for you, consider the five helpful tips below.
#1 – Don’t Rush the Process
If there are plenty of sites available, take the time to look around to see what’s available. Find the spot that’s right for you, (away from the road?), for your family (close to recreational area?) and for the RV (will it fit?). Go through the whole campground and get out of the RV to actually get a full look at any sites that catch your eye. It may take you an extra 30 minutes but it will be well worth the time to make sure you didn’t miss the best site in the park.
#2 – Think Of the Future
If you arrive on a Monday and the campground is mostly empty, it may not stay that way come Friday afternoon. There is a very high chance you will have a lot more neighbours before the week is through. Keep this in mind and pick a site that will give you most privacy as the campground fills up. Or if you’re a social butterfly, pick the one that will get you the most new friends.
#3 – Is it User-Friendly
Sure, you can pick the site that has the best lake view, but you’ll be even happier if the site is easy to use. Is the parking level? Do you have access to the utilities? Are the hook-ups up to par? Remember, you are on holidays and trying to relax – don’t just squeeze into a spot that isn’t right for your RV and will make your life more difficulty.
#4 – Don’t be Afraid to Ask
It’s not like asking directions! Just ask the host or owner where they would park if they were you. They’ll definitely have insider information – like how that perfect lakeview site also has crows that wake people up every morning. Plus, if you are friendly and introduce yourself right at the beginning of your stay, that host will remember you and be your helpful point of contact during your stay.
#5 – Use Your Intuition
If all else fails, simply pick the site that called your name when you first drove by. There doesn’t always have to be a methodical reason for your choice – maybe you just really love that spot. As long as the site has your basic needs, listen to your gut and have a great time RV camping.
