Derringer Tuner Packs a Punch in a Small Package - Now for 2014-2017 Ram 1500 3.0L EcoDiesel and 2011-2016 Ford F-150 EcoBoost 3.5L
Factory engine tunes balance fuel economy and performance to provide us with a best of both worlds compromise. But aftermarket engine tuners allow us to personalise that compromise by swinging that balance to meet our needs.
According to Banks Power, the Derringer is dyno calibrated to use multiple data inputs such as throttle position, rpm, vehicle speed, exhaust gas temperature (EGT) and coolant temperature to actively and safely optimize calibrations in real time.
You can choose from three settings - Stock, Plus and Sport. Sport mode will reportedly knock a full second off your 0-100 kph time, 2.1 seconds off your 0-130 time and a full 4 seconds off 0-160 times. The Plus setting is designed improve your acceleration when carrying or hauling a payload.
The electronics are molded into a waterproof connector, and can communicate with other Banks devices such as their iDash 1.8 Super Gauge/Control Center. While communicating with your truck through the OBD II port a coolant temp override prevents power addition when your engine is too cold or overheated.
They recommend you enhance airflow to your engine and use 91 octane to achieve up to an extra 79 hp and 138 lb-ft of torque. The units are emissions compliant for most regions and start at $389 USD.
