SureCall’s Fusion2Go 3.0
Radio communication on a group trail ride is important and many wheelers find it a necessity. But often a walkie-talkie while wheeling solo to a favourite fishing spot doesn’t make sense. A ham radio would do the trick to reach out for help but if you could get away with a just your cell, you could answer calls as well as call for help (or pretend you’re at work).
SureCall’s Fusion2Go 3.0 just might do the trick. The device uses an externally mounted magnetic antenna to pick up signals from cell towers, runs them to a booster, which enhances the signal and runs it inside to a patch antenna that rebroadcasts to all mobile devices inside the vehicle. In a similar way, the Fusion2Go amplifies outgoing signals from your devices.
It can’t give you the same range as a ham radio (everywhere in the country), but it will give you more kilometres of uninterrupted voice and data coverage, resulting in fewer dropped calls and more 4G access. SureCall says it works with all North American carriers and will also extend your mobile devices’ battery life.
We installed the device in our Jeep JKU, unfortunately our Jeep has the removable hard top so the magnet for the antennae didn’t work in the prime location suggested in the instructions - but some two-sided tape took care of that. The cable to the booster easily slipped behind the B pillar covers and the booster went in under the seat. The cable to the interior antennae was easily tucked behind the centre console cover and the interior antennae mounted to the dash.
There are plenty of weak cell points on our travels so it was easy to find one on nearby trails. The booster plugs into the 12V DC adapter (what us old-timers call a cigarette lighter). We found a weak spot with just a single bar, plugged it in and watched the magic happen. Our signal strength went from one bar to two.
If your travels involve areas of poor reception, whether it’s a forest service road or semi-remote job site - this could be the perfect solution for you. “Sure honey - call me at work!”
